This course focuses on the BXR5000, a service edge router that combines switching and routing technologies within a single, IP-based device. The BXR offers Quality of Service (QoS) and connection management to support Layer 2 switched data services, as well as the capability for Layer 3 IP service offerings, such as internet access and L2 and L3 MPLS/VPNs.

The BXR’s AnyService Traffic Management module contains an IP processing engine that handles packet classification and filtering which supports deterministic wire-speed performance.

It allows for the creation of multiple per-hop behaviors (IP DiffServ), as well as Assured Forwarding (RFC 2597) and Expedited Forwarding (RFC 2598).

AnyService Traffic Management also gives service providers the ability to isolate customer traffic and to adhere to purchased bandwidth limits to match customer Class of Service (COS) and Service Level Agreements (SLAs). The AnyService Traffic Management module also offers sophisticated buffer management capabilities that can proactively deliver guaranteed traffic.
